8 January 2021, Shenzhen, China - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced that its high-end router ZXR10 M6000-S has been selected in the BIER (Bit Index Explicit Replication) subtask equipment procurement to build the new backbone pilot project by Nanjing Purple Mountain Laboratories.
As the first BIER multicast pilot project in China, it paves the way for the commercial deployments of BIER multicast technology, thereby demonstrating ZTE's leading position in this field.
Providing a stateless multicast forwarding mechanism, BIER multicast can efficiently complete the distribution of multicast packets to satisfy the large-scale deployment requirements of IPTV and OTT services in the 5G era.
With SR/EVPN/SRv6/BIER features, ZTE's high-end router ZXR10 M6000-S is developed based on ZTE's self-patented ROSng routing operating system. It enables IP network architecture to be more simplified and intelligent.
As a major participant in the research of BIER multicast technology, ZTE has submitted a number of BIER proposals to IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force), and introduced IPV6-based BIERin6 encapsulation.
Moreover, the company released the BIER Multicast Technology White Paper in November 2020, and has conducted cooperation with Nanjing Purple Mountain Laboratories on the R&D of BIER multicast technology since 2019.
To date, ZTE has been committed to supporting BIER multicast technology on a full set of systems including routers, network controllers, and APPs, leveraging its great end-to-end service capabilities.
Moving forward, ZTE will further the collaboration with its partners in 5G construction with the aim of steady commercialization progress of BIER and achieve commercial success in the 5G era.
